Coroner Job Description

Coroners conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death of an individual. In some cases, they order an inquest of the cause of death if they suspect that foul play was involved. Coroners can either be elected officials or qualified medical doctors.

We are looking for an experienced and qualified Coroner to oversee the examination of deceased persons within our jurisdiction. The successful candidate will determine the cause of death, complete death certificates, notify family members, maintain death records, and conduct inquests as necessary. You may also be tasked with testifying in court, supervising other staff, and liaising with law enforcement officials.


A Coroner may earn anywhere from $27,000 to $99,000 depending on experience and location. The median salary for this position is $52,000 per year.
