Reschedule a Job Interview Due to Coronavirus (Example Email)

Some companies aren’t taking the coronavirus scare seriously enough. And they may still ask you to come into the office to perform a regular job interview. How should you reschedule or request your interview to change dates if you feel like you aren’t safe?

This is a major issue and one that can be easily addressed by sending an email to your future employer. The first option to request that they postpone or change the interview until a later date. The second option is to request to perform normal on-site interviews through telecommunication tools like Zoom or Slack.

With the first option, postponing could have negative effects on your ability to receive an income. You should only recommend this if you have current employment and can be financially stable for at least the next three months.

Example Email Postponing a Job Interview Due to Coronavirus

Dear Hiring Manager —

With the rapid increase in cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the measures we should all be taking to prevent the spread of this illness, I want to ask if we can postpone our interview. I would like to keep a close eye on the pandemic and recommend a date one week from now. If the pandemic increases in maturity, we may have to postpone further.

Alternatively, we can perform these interviews by phone or through Zoom, a video conferencing tool if your team is comfortable.

Thank you so much,
Sam

Example Email Asking to Perform The Interview By Phone or Zoom

Dear Hiring Manager —

With the rapid increase in cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the measures we should all be taking to prevent the spread of this illness, I want to recommend that we perform our upcoming on-site interview using telecommunication tools like Zoom, Slack, Google Hangouts, or other video conferencing systems.

I’m promoting this option as I would love to keep your employee who will be interviewing me safe as well. And I believe our on-site interview can be replicated using these tools.

Please let me know if you are okay with this option and I can help to make arrangements on which tools to use if necessary.

Thank you so much,
Sam
