What is the REI employee discount? REI is a national outdoor retail co-op headquartered in Kent, Washington. It was founded in 1938 by Lloyd and Mary Anderson to sell used climbing gear out of their garage. In 1940, the Andersons opened their first store in Seattle, and REI has grown steadily since then. Today, REI operates over 150 stores across the United States and online employs more than 12,000 people and is owned by nearly 8 million active members.
Does REI offer an employee discount?
REI employees receive a 50% discount on REI Co-op Gear and Apparel. The discount program includes 30% off our vendor merchandise and 10% off sale items. REI employees also have access to our vendor ProDeal Discount Program. Under the program, purchases can be made directly from vendors.
Employees even receive discounts on trips with our own travel company, REI Adventures! Most trips are discounted by 30% while other select trips are 10% off the REI member price. Employees have access to discounted classes through REI’s Outdoor School to learn a new activity or skill.
How can I qualify for an REI employee discount?
REI offers a variety of benefits and discounts to employees, including a discount on merchandise. How do I use my REI employee discount online?

What are the other REI Employee Benefits?
Healthcare
REI offers a rich benefit packet to their full and part-time employees which includes the REI Flex Plan. All employees working at least 20 hours or more per week are eligible for the REI Flex Plan.
In addition to the Flex Plan, employees at Recreational Equipment, Inc may also choose from several medical plans for themselves and their dependents. REI pays for the majority of employees’ medical plan costs and the full cost for basic life and disability coverage.
Employees may also purchase several additional coverages like vision care, orthodontia, and more.
Family & Medical Leaves
The REI Employee Family and Medical Leave program is a generous leave of absence program that provides employees with paid time off for medical and family reasons. Additionally, REI extends FMLA leave to care for a life partner, life partner's child, or sibling. REI also provides two weeks of paid parental leave for working mothers and fathers. This leave program is an important benefit for REI employees and their families.
Annual Incentive Plan
The REI Employee Annual Incentive Plan (EIP) is a bonus program that provides eligible employees with an opportunity to receive an annual cash bonus based on the company's performance. The plan is designed to reward employees for contributing to REI's success and to encourage continued high levels of performance.
REI's performance is measured using a variety of financial indicators, including sales, profitability, and return on equity. Eligible employees can earn up to 10% of their base salary in bonus payouts, based on the company's overall performance. In order to receive a bonus, employees must meet certain individual performance requirements.

The Plan is 100% funded by REI. Staff members at REI are not required to contribute their own pay in order to receive an REI contribution; however, the company does encourage employees to make their own contributions within the traditional 401k.
