Best Voluntary Resignation Letter Example (+ Writing Guide) [2022]

A voluntary resignation letter isn’t dissimilar to a regular resignation letter. A voluntary resignation letter might be used as a manager who doesn’t have another manager or supervisor they report to. Or when the manager has experienced a misconduct or conduct issue within the company and has chosen to voluntarily resign rather than go through the internal review process and investigation that a company might pursue.

When writing a voluntary resignation letter, it’s not important to list the reason for the resignation. In a traditional resignation letter, the reason might be personal, family health reasons, returning to school, or another type of professional reason. Because the letter indicates voluntarily stepping down from the position, no reason is required.

Depending on the situation, the resigning employee may be required to resign immediately or submit a two-week notice and enter a transition period with the company, transferring all job duties and responsibilities to another colleague or new hire.

Dear John —

I’m writing this resignation letter to voluntarily resign from my job duties as VP of Product at XYZ Company. I’ve decided it is best to move onto new opportunities and resign from my position here at the company. My experience has been nothing short of positive, and I look forward to staying connected with my colleagues.

My final day of employment will be two weeks from the date of this letter. I look forward to helping with the transition to ensure that the company doesn’t experience any downtime or the potential of slowing down from hitting any milestone.

My personal contact information is [email protected] and my cell phone is 776-875-4857.

Once again, I want to thank everyone here for this incredible opportunity.

Sincerely,
Sarah
